Ancestral Recognition Celebration

The Ancestral Recognition Celebration honors those living in the Greater Syracuse African-American community who have contributed to its wholeness, its well being, and in its progress and survival. This Ancestral Recognition Celebration will be held Thursday, June 17, 2010, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Institute for Human Performance.

The program includes soul food dinner, live jazz band, presentation of the NIA Awards, and keynote address by TBD.

NIA Awardees are individuals who have become the unacknowledged/uncelebrated role models within our community due to their strength, determination, courage, patience, and faith.  They have significantly contributed to aid in the preservation of a dignified and respected race and culture. A new NIA Award has been set aside this year. To recognize young people between the age of 12 and 25 years old, who are following in the path of their Ancestors an have made significant contributions to the African-American Community.

If you would like to nominate someone for a NIA Award please submit a short bio highlighting the contributions of the individual striving towards strengthening and preserving the African American community.
